A home church is a church that doesn’t meet in a dedicated church building. They typically meet in a home or outside.

A few advantages include: no/low overhead, no financial responsibility to paid staff, small numbers = deeper relationships and spiritual intimacy, and easier to invite neighbors when church is down the street and in a familiar place.

According to one of the leading home church experts, Curtis Sergeant, home churches tend to have less heresy than traditional churches because you have more access to the teaching and more accountability. In the large church setting you may have no access to the person preaching/teaching and almost certainly have no way to hold them accountable.

No one in the Bible who started a church had a degree. I (Matt) have a theology degree and yet I also understand that if we limit our leadership to those with degrees we will miss most of our opportunities to raise up leaders and make an impact. Read Acts 4 – even the apostles were seen as unschooled and ordinary! And yet they did miracles and proclaimed Jesus BOLDLY! We want to find the ordinary disciples and train them/you to go into the harvest field (Luke 10:2)!

1 – Pray and ask God to connect you with an existing home church

2 – Consider starting a home church. We are here to help! Just start with learning more here.
